Samtrokte – Forest Bitterberry

Forest Bitterberry, called ‘Samtrokte’ in Hmar, is usually cooked and consumed as a traditional dish with fermented pork and also with fermented fish. It is very bitter in taste.

The fruit is also dried and fried. Some preserve it as a pickle in combination with Small Chilli or Hmarchate.
